Seminar in Mexico

A group of organizations and industry leaders in the Riviera Maya in Mexico is recently developing the “Quintana Roo Low Carbon Tourism Initiative”, led by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The aim of the initiative is to join efforts in climate change and tourism and serve as a catalyst to go towards a low emission development in Quintana Roo and its main economic activity: tourism. Cancun and Riviera Maya – two of the most important tourism destinations worldwide – assume through this initiative a commitment to continue working on the measurement of greenhouse gas emissions and set clear goals for their reduction, as well as to share information on best practices that enable companies based in the area to move together towards a low carbon tourism.

In this context WWF Mexico organizes the seminar “Towards a Low Carbon Tourism in Quintana Roo”, which will take place in the Fairmont Mayakoba Hotel on September 19. – 21. 2011.

The seminar brings together business and governmental representatives like e.g. the UNWTO, the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of the Environment, several environmental NGOs, and local, national and international tourism companies. Nicola Koschel will participate in the seminar on behalf of the WWF/TOI partnership. Please see here more information about the seminar and its conclusions.
