Award for Havel Cycle Route

The Havel Cycle Route won the award for the best cycle route of the year 2012 at the “Fiets en Wandelbeurs” (Cycling and Rambling fair), the largest fair in the Netherlands for cyclists and ramblers. On February 11th the organizers and jury presented the award to Gerd Koallik (Aktiv Reisen Berlin Brandenburg) and Nicola Koschel (Tourism Marketing Brandenburg).

The route runs along the river Havel, which makes its way through three federal states, and gives cyclists plenty of opportunity to enjoy a wealth of natural beauty and explore the Prussian palaces. The biggest part of the route runs through the state of Brandenburg along farm tracks, lakes and quiet country roads and along the ‘Lower Havel basin’, the largest unbroken marshland area in the western inlands of central Europe.
